13th March 2008 GETTING STUCK IN.

Well, this is day 2 on the allotment. We took our 3 year old Jessica over to help!!!!
Unfortunately, the onsite shop had been broken into and torched by small minded teenagers.....such a shame and a waste.
We dug and turned over a 4x4ft patch. We are so lucky with our soil....amazing. Lost count of the amount of worms we found.
The small patch we dug today will be divided and used for garlic and onions.
It is frustrating as we can only spend a few hours a week over here....i want it done NOW! NOW! NOW! But it is well worth the wait.
Got home from the allotment and on our door mat were some of the seeds we had ordered. We still have soil preperation before we do anymore.

10 March 2008 REALLY EXCITED!

REALLY EXCITED!
Stephen and myself (Laura) gained our 30x40ft allotment plot a week ago. This comes after the decision that we wanted somewhere to grow our own fruit and veg for our family. We have 6 children and I feel it is very important that they should know where their food comes from. We have been laughed at and told that allotmenteering is for old people......but I strongly disagree. I think it is great that people can have things in common no matter their age.
Today we went down and marked out where we were going to put everything. We have decided to start from the front.

As this is our first time at this, we are absorbing as much information as we can from books, internet and mainly people.
I didn't realise how excited a person could get over a piece of land....but I realise now.
